We are proud to announce that the Roxbury Public Library has received a generous grant from the Connecticut Community Foundation for our “Exercise Your Mind” Summer Reading Program. We will be working the the Roxbury Senior Center, Roxbury Recreation Commission, and Roxbury Road Race to bring you a series of programs dedicated to encouraging health and wellness of both body and mind.
Check out our calendar of events here to see what’s happening. Be sure to check back often for more news and events. We hope you will find something that interests you, from exercise classes, sound meditation, to the inner workings of your brain, there is a lot to choose from.
We’re kicking things off on Saturday, June 25th at Hurlburt Park with a 2.4 mile run or 1 mile walk with the Roxbury Road Race. After the run/walk we’ll have refreshments, a bounce house for the kids (maybe even the kids-at-heart once the little ones are worn out), and a performance by juggler-extraordinaire Harrison Kramer. This will also be your first chance to sign up for the Summer Reading Program.
For adults and teens (ages 12 and up), this year’s summer reading program grand prize is a new FitBit Charge HR. Those that sign up for the summer reading program at the kick-off will automatically be entered into the drawing. Read books and submit reviews at the library to earn more entries!
There’s lots going on this summer for kids too! Kids earn prizes and free books when they read. Every Saturday we’ll have a different performance for kids and their families to enjoy. We’ll also be screening movies and serving pizza every Monday.
