Local author and historian Peter Vermilyea will explore the American Revolution through the lives of Loyalists in Litchfield County, Connecticut. Tracing the stories of two well-known figures alongside lesser-known, often forgotten individuals, reveals the personal dilemmas, divided loyalties, and local consequences of the Revolutionary War for Litchfield County residents.

Together, these stories highlight the Revolution’s complexity beyond simple Patriot-versus-Loyalist narratives.

Peter Vermilyea is an engaging speaker who also teaches history at Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, CT. His other books are “Hidden History of Litchfield County”, “Wicked Litchfield County”, and his latest book “Litchfield County in the American Revolution”, all published by History Press.
