“Arthur Miller and Inge Morath: In New York”

Explore New York City as a powerful inspiration in Arthur Miller’s work and then experience Miller’s New York productions through the intimate perspective of Inge Morath’s photographs. Dr. Stephen Marino will offer a panoramic view from his new book Arthur Miller’s New York: Visions of the City to discuss how Miller’s life in his native city influenced his plays and fiction.  Miller scholar Dr. Susan Abbotson will delve into Magnum photographer Inge Morath’s four decades documenting her husband’s productions in the city, from After the Fall’s 1964 premiere to The Crucible’s 2002 Broadway revival.  Actor Caroline Kinsolving will return to the conference series with a performance centered on the presence of New York City in Miller’s work.  A reception with book signing will conclude the day.

This year’s conference begins a 3-year arc focusing on Arthur Miller and photographer Inge Morath’s creative collaboration. 2027’s event “Arthur Miller and Inge Morath: In the Country” will take its title from their 1977 book and their life in Roxbury, Connecticut.  2028’s “Arthur Miller and Inge Morath: In the World” will feature their collaborative work in Russia, China, Europe and beyond.
