We are excited to welcome dance caller Billy Fischer for a community Contra Dance at Hurlburt Park on Apple Lane.
All ages are welcome.
No experience is necessary to join in the fun (none of us know how to do this dance either!)
Please feel free to bring food & drinks.
Contra Dance is a New England folk social dance, similar to square dancing.
Billy Fischer grew up in Connecticut, went to Columbia medical school and then moved back to Bethany, CT in the seventies to practice general internal medicine. Since the early eighties, however, Bill’s also been making a living as a professional contra dance caller. He started out in New Haven with the contra dance series that has been a fixture of the folk music and dance scene there for more than twenty-five years. In addition to some contra dances in and around the northeast, he has called at various festivals regionally. Besides calling, he plays several folk instruments – primarily penny-whistle – as has danced and played music for performing dance groups at many events and festivals in and around the northeast.
