THE STATE OF BEING
Paintings and Sculptures
Elizabeth Kaney & Kristina Kossi
“The state of being is a snapshot of present experience. It evokes a state of mind. It is an exploration of the verb “to be”. If you “are”, then you exist. One exists in a moment – both the viewer and the subject matter. In this exhibit, we capture those moments. All we are is now….and now…and….”
Elizabeth Kaney has a BFA from the University of Illinois and has continued to study, teach, and practice art and design. Elizabeth has taught and lectured as a Professor of Typography and Design at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) as well as the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul, MN. Her work has been accepted into several juried group exhibitions all over Connecticut. In addition to her iconic mural which stands in Washington Depot, Elizabeth’s works are included in public and private collections across the country.
Kristina Kossi began painting classes at the Art Students League of New York in 1992, but was soon drawn to sculpting. She still works there as well as in her Litchfield, CT studio. Her award-winning work has been widely exhibited including a recent live sculpting demonstration at the Museum of Modern Art. As a child, Kristina grew up under the limelight with her parents being European adagio stars on ice. While touring with them she performed in their shows and later on in her own shows. Her years of professional ice skating and dancing inspired her to seek out elegant lines and beauty in her sculpting.
